Grants for single parents: what is real, and where to apply

Straight answer first: there is no federal grant that sends cash to someone just for being a single mom or dad. Sites that promise one are usually selling something. What does exist is a set of real programs that single-parent households often qualify for. They pay toward food, rent, child care, heating bills and college. None of them cost money to apply for.

How to spot a fake grant

  • Real government programs never charge a fee to apply or to "release" a grant.
  • Government agencies do not call, text or DM you to offer free money.
  • If a site asks for your bank login or a gift card, close it.
  • Grants.gov, the official federal grants site, explains grant scams here: grants.gov.
